August the 1st I’ll be at Ezeiza International Airport (Buenos Aires), checking-in to my flight to Berlin! So exciting, this would be the first time in Europe, also the first time outside the continent I live… wicked!
I know, I’m 24, I’ve never been abroad. But here’s why…
In the 90’s decade our currency was equal to the dollar… yes! GREAT you might think. You could see Argentinians EVERYWHERE around the world. It was very cheap for us to travel wherever. But I was too young by that time, well, maybe not.
Then, by the end of 2001 – my first year at uni – we had an economic crash. The rate of our currency was just an illusion, created by the government by acquiring international loans and selling dollars. So… seems but that time we runned out of money and the price of the US currency went to the clouds. I think I remember the top was USD 1 for AR$ 4,40. Ridiculous!! The process that made us get there was a lot more complicated, but this is the easiest explanation – maybe I’ll get beaten up by an economist for this -
Well, coming back to “nowadays”. The pity is USD 1 for AR$ 3, but a similar case as well, the government is buying dollars this time, to keep the exchange rate as it is, for the sake of the exportation and tourism. So, we are doing quite well, the economy is rising, so is the cost of living, both at an incredible speed… but not our salaries.
I think that explanation is quite enough… I thought this blog was about tourism!! Gosh… Inexperienced “writer” [?]
Anyway, by all this you know that our blessed country is very cheap to travel trough, and it offers the same services you can find in any country… well, I think I can say Europe.
I’ll tell you about my trip to Europe tomorrow, very tired over here.
